Removing the Bilge Pump

The following sequence should be followed:

Photograph of aft end of the centreplate casing The aft end of the centreplate casing with the teak capping and bilge pump removed

This photograph of the rear end of the centreplate casing, shows the inspection hole cut into the aft end of the top of the GRP casing, the hole which takes the outlet hose from the pump into the back of the centreplate casing, and the cut out area on the aft end of the casing where the pump is mounted. Note that a thick 'tongue' of GRP follows the slope of the underlying inner shell of the centreplate case. A rectangle has been cut into the front of this 'tongue' to accommodate the pump inlet pipe. Compare this photograph with the sketch section at the top of the page.

Photograph of removed mounting board The mounting board and accessories after removal

Photograph of the damaged and split plywood mounting board and rusted jubilee clip. Note the severe kink near the top of the polythene outlet hose (on the right). This constricts the flow of water and reduces the efficency of the pump. The four dome-headed silicon bronze wood screws pass through the GRP sides of the centrecase and are used to hold the mounting board in position within the casing.
