Letter from Andrew Pettigrew to his Future Wife Agnes McLelland Allan


Earliest preserved letter written by Andrew Pettigrew on the 23rd January 1855 to his future wife Agnes McLelland Allan. Describes Andrew's journey from Sheffield to Liverpool and thence by steamer to Glasgow with a good view of Ayr on the way. He makes mention of some Glasgow nurseries and that he is lodging with his brother William and wife in Glasgow. Refers darkly to his time in the Sheffield Botanic Gardens.
