Biographical notes

David Allan is the only named parent in the OPR. Birthplace of Dailly confirmed in 1851 Census when William (aged 62, Chelsea Pensioner) and Frances were living in Kirkford, Stewarton, Ayrshire. Died Fergusghill Orchard. Mentioned by Wallace Allan (1848-1931) in his family reminiscences, written 1930:

quote : Fanny - maid to Mrs [Frances Anna] Dunlop (Burns Dunlop) [a close friend of the poet Robert Burns] and was her life long friend. Married late in life Sargt. Patrick (Waterloo veteran) died at Mag[gie] Buchanan's [Her Niece] orchard Eglinton over 90.
