Biographical notesAccording to an un-sourced batch of records on the LDS website, Sophia's christening took place on the 07 FEB 1829, in Worcester, parents recorded as Charles Bull and Elizabeth. Sophia has so far not been traced in the 1841 Census, but she is recorded in the 1851 Census living at 7, High Street, Bristol, with her two sisters Maria and Maria. The record is; Sophia Bull, Sister, U, 22, Straw Bonnet Maker, Milliner, Birtsmorton, Worcestershire. In the 1861 Census, she is still living in Bristol (38, College Green), with her sister Hannah and has the description; Sophia Bull, Sister, U, 32, Milliner Assistant, Worcestershire. In the 1871 Census, Sophia is living with her brother James and his wife Harriet. They are living in The Shambles, Worcester; James Bull, Head, M, 49, Pork Butcher, Worcestershire Birtsmorton; Harriett Bull, Wife, M, 58, Worcestershire Kempsey; Sophia Bull, Asst, Unmar, 41, Assistant to Pork Butcher, Worcestershire Birtsmorton. 1881 finds Sophia working as a housekeeper at 22 Sibella Road, Clapham, London; Sophia Bull, Servant, U, 48, Housekeeper, Worcestershire By 1891, Sophia had joined her four other sisters (Emma, Hannah, Jane and Elizabeth - Emma was the Lodging House Keeper), living at 1 Bourne Street in Eastbourne; Sophia Bull, Boarder, U, 62, Birtsmorton Worcestershire. 1901 is the last Census in which Sophia appears. The sisters are still at 1 Bourne Street but were depleted by the death of Emma Bull in 1891. The remaining sisters had been joined by their niece Lilian Maud Daw (Daughter of Hannah Bull and George William Frederick Daw). The entry for Sophia is; Sophia Bull, Sister, S, 72, Own Means, Worcestershire Birtsmorton. Sophia died at Eastbourne in the third quarter of 1905, with a recorded age of 76. |
