Biographical notes

William and his wife Sarah are listed in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Census returns. These indicate a birth year of about 1782-1784 and consistently give the place of his birth as Ware Hertfordshire. This corresponds to a Ware parish entry on the LDS website which gives a christening date for William Tillcock of 6.10.1782. Parents are given as Henry Tillcock and Elizabeth.

The 1861 Census took place on the 7 April 1861. The couple do not appear in the 1871 Census. It looks as if William Tillcock died on the second quarter of 1861 (April-June) soon after the 1861 Census had been taken. It appears that Sarah Tillcock died in the last quarter of the following year (1862 October-December Ware 3a 133).

A probable sibling; Marie Tillcock is listed as being christened 13 NOV 1785 Ware, Hertfordshire to parents Henry Tillcock and Elizabeth. Research by Sue Hill suggests the maiden name of the mother was Elizabeth Stains.
