Born:- 1821, Thundridge, Hertfordshire Died:- 1872, Bishops Stortford (registered), Hertfordshire
Child of: William and Sarah TILLCOCK
Marriage: Charles and Ann TILLCOCK
Biographical notesChristening recorded in Thundridge parish register. In the 1841 Census he is listed aged 20, with the occupation of Sawyer living with his parents William and Sarah and sisters Louisa and Maria at Wades Mill, Thundridge. On 30th July 1847, he married Ann White at Saint Giles Cripplegate, London. In the 1851 Census he is living with his wife Ann and nephew William Tillcock (1838-1894) at the Bell Inn, Widford (The Bell Inn was occupied by his brother John, father of William in the 1841 Census), listed as a builder and victualler, born Thundridge. In the 1861 census, they are still in Widford and although not specifically stated, Charles's occupation as Builder and Publican suggests they were still living in the Bell Inn. Charles recorded place of birth is more specific as Wades Mill, Thundridge, Herts. His wife Ann Tillcock and nephew William are also present. The 1871 Census sees the family in Great Hadham where Charles is described as a Hotel Keeper at the Red Lion Inn. His wife Ann is present but his Nephew William is not (he had moved to be with his father in Shoreditch, London). However Charles's un-married nephew Charles Tillcock (1842-1875) is living with them employed as Fly Driver and Domestic Servant. More puzzling is the presence of an Ann Tillcock (aged 20, b about 1851 in Bengeo, Herts), recorded as the unmarried niece of Charles and working for him as General Domestic Servant. Death of Charles registered in 1872 at Bishop's Stortford, aged 50. |
