Biographical notes

Elizabeth first appears in the St Quivox Parish register as the daughter of Elizabeth and John Pettigrew. We know from the St Quivox Parish Registers that she had four children by James Chalmers Park but they were not married. In the 1841 Census she is living as an 'Independent' in Content Street with her 4 children. There is no record of her in the 1851 Census and her children are being looked after by her mother with the family of her brother Alexander. No further record of Elizabeth has been found and it is probable that she died before the 1851 Census and before Scottish Civil registration was introduced in 1855. Occupation of Housekeeper on her daughter Elizabeth's death certificate in 1903.
