This is a scale 3D Drawing of the fifth phase of the project with the construction of a new mezzanine floor attached to the joists. There is a compromise here between maximising the available height for storage between the floor and the roof whilst maintaining an adequate ceiling height in the underlying workshop which should be no less than the 2.1 metres specified in the UK Building Regulations. The height to the bottom of the ridge plate from the mezzanine floor is estimated to be 1,167.5mm (3' 10"). The height from the floor to the top of the joists/roof ties is about 547mm (1' 9 ½").
Also shown here are the altered collar ties (spanning the roof void between rafters). Two ties (shown in light brown), were removed after replacement by two new ties (shown in pale green), bolted in place attached to the same rafters but at a lower level just above the mezzanine floor. Another tie (also shown in light brown), just in front of the stud partition was moved forward to the next rafter (the tie is shown in dark green in its new position). These changes to the collar ties were to improve access to the mezzanine floor and garage roof void. Click HERE to view the navigation menu. Or CLICK HERE to return to the Home page.
