Biographical notes

Some confusion as regards parentage. On the LDS website his details appear in an ancestral file (AFN: 1K1P-FF) where his father is given as JONAS DAW (AFN: BBZZ-JR) and SARAH PARKER (AFN: BBZZ-KX). In Trull Register christening of James Daw AND Jonas Daw to parents Jonas Daw and Sarah given as 25 Jan 1767 (possibly suggesting James and Jonas were twins). However, not clear if James (c. 25 Jan 1767), or his twin Jonas (c. 25 Jan 1767), was the father of James (b.1790).

Second LDS entry gives death, parentage and marriage data from LDS website (Batch 5027284) but probable GRO death entry not verified. Spouse given as ELIZABETH WILLIAMS, date of marriage given as 10 JUN 1814 at Trull, Somerset. James parents given as JAMES DAW and SARAH PARKER (conflicts with JONAS DAW as parent, given in first LDS entry).

Marriage details verified on genuki website 'Trull Marriage Banns 1755-1817' at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/Trull/TruBan_A.html (2008) where transcripts have an entry: Daws, James Elizabeth Williams 12 Jun 1814 otp/otp (both of this parish). Note that this is date of Banns, not marriage, but see marriage register at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/Trull/MarTru_Cr.html where an entry gives: Dare, James, Elizabeth Williams 10 Jul 1814 otp/otp Probable mis-spelling or transcription error Dare instead of Daw.

Birth entries for his children in Trull Parish Registers variously give his occupation as Mason and Labourer. Corresponding death entry on genuki website 'Trull Burial Register at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/Trull/BurTru_D.html where entry gives: Daw, James, 19 Oct 1842, age 52. Death certificate has James Dawe occupation Mason died 14 October 1842 aged 52 years. The mark of Elizabeth Dawe [informant] present at death.
