Biographical notes

Elizabeth was married to William Pettigrew when she was about 20 and he was 22. Their last child, Jane, was born in 1851 when Elizabeth would have been 46.

The 1851 Census incorrectly states that she was born in the parish of St. Quivox although her marriage to William and the birth/Christening of some of her children are entered in the St Quivox Parish Registers. However, the record of her birth/christening is in the Loudoun Parish register. This also agrees with the 1861 Census return where her place of birth is given as Newmilns, 7.5 miles east of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. She died after her husband William, in 1876 at 97 Cross Street, Ayr.
