Biographical notesBirth data from LDS website. Also on genuki website at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/Trull/BapTru_D.html (2008) where transcripts of All Saints, Trull, Baptisms 1669-1925 have an entry: Daw, Hannah 05 Apr 1816, d James/Betty, mason. In the 1841 Census, looks as if she is working as a Female Servant at No. 5 Priory Parade, Clifton, Bristol, in the home of George Webb (35) Public Accountant and Auctioneer, with his wife Sarah (33) and their inferred children Sarah (13) Fredrick (10) and Elizabeth (6). She is recorded as Hannah Day (25), F[emale] S[ervant] not born in Census County (Gloucestershire). This location would link with the birth of her second illegitimate child Emma who was registered in Clifton (b.1851). Married John Callicott on 07 Jan 1845 as recorded at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SOM/Pitminster/MarPit_Da.html (2008) where transcripts of Pitminster marriages have the entry: Daw, Hannah John Collicott, 07 Jan 1845 Family in 1851 Census, living in Upper High Street, Taunton (St Mary Magdalene). John Callicott, Head, Married, age, 33, Tailor (Master Hosier), born Somerset, Taunton St Mary; Hannah Callicott, Wife, Married, age 33, born Somerset, Trull. In the 1861 Census the family are living in Temple Street in the district of St Mary Redcliff in Bristol. Strangely John Callicott is not listed. The names are Hannah Callicott (44), Head, Marr. Tailor[asst] born Somerset, Pitminster; Emma Dawe, Dau. (20), Un. Tailor[asst?] born Bristol; Jane Callicott, Dau, (13) Tailor[asst?], born Somerset, Taunton; Wm. Callicott, Son, (11), Haulier, born Somerset, Taunton. It is possible that there is a mistake on the return and that Hannah was a Widow. In the 1871 Census, Hannah is a visitor at Wrington, Somerset and is recorded as a Widow aged 55 with the occupation of 'Nurse to Cottage Hospital'. In the 1881 Census, an image of the somewhat mutilated original return records a Hannah Callock, Grandm., Widow, 68 [place of birth torn away on original record]. However she is living at Hillslodge Court, Bedminster (Bristol) with Francis Nicholson, Head, Marr., 38, Iro[n moulder, rest of record torn away], Emma Nicholson, Wife, Marr., 39 [rest of record torn away]; William Nicholson, Son, Unm. 10, Sc[holar, rest of record torn away]. The 1871 Census and marriage records show that Emma was the daughter of Hannah Daw who married Francis Nicholson in 1863. Almost certain that Hannah Callock is in fact Hannah Callicott and therefore the mother of Emma Nicolson (nee Daw) and mother-in-law of Francis Nicholson. Death registered in Bedminster in the first quarter of 1887 with a recorded age of 71 which matches exactly with her inferred date of birth. |
