Biographical notes

Following information from Brenda Crowcroft (Dec 2008)

quote : I have Sarah Dawe born 23 Sep1815 married James Gannicott 30th July 1846 in Taunton. James had previously been married to his cousin Ann Gannicott. The children of the marriage that I have are Charles William b 3/04/1847, Sarah Ann b 1849, Anna Maria b. 1851, Emily b. 1854 and William Edward born 4/8/1858. James died in 1861 and Sarah in 1866. There were a number of children from the first marriage also. I have got a copy of the marriage cert of James and Sarah. Sarah's details are Sarah Dawe, spinster aged 32 of Wellington Terrace, Bishops Hull, daughter of James Dawe, Mason. The mariage was witnessed by John Edwards and Mary Board. Sarah's birth place is given as Trull so she and Hannah must have been sisters. What intrigues me is that I do not have a John Gallicott/Gannicott in my records so who was he?

In 1851 Census, family is living at High Street, Taunton; James Gannicott, Head, Mar, 34, Cordwainer, Somerset, Taunton; Sarah Gannicott, Wife, Mar. 36, Somerset, Taunton; Henry James Gannicott, [From previous marriage], 12, Cordwainer (Apprentice), Somerset, Taunton; Ebenezer Gannicott, Son [From previous marriage], 4, Scholar, Somerset, Taunton; Robert Gannicott, Son [from previous marriage], 9, Scholar, Somerset, Taunton; Charles William Gannicott, Son, 4, At home, Somerset, Taunton; Sarah Ann Gannicott, Dau., 2, At home, Somerset, Taunton.

In 1861 Census, family living at Bath Place Taunton; James Gannicott, Head, M, 44, Shoemaker's Shop, Taunton Somerset; Sarah Gannicott, Wife, M, 47, Trull Somerset; Henry James Gannicott, Son [from previous marriage], Un, 22, Cordwainer Taunton, Somerset; Robert Gannicott, Son [from previous marriage], 17, Cordwainer, Taunton, Somerset; Charles Gannicott, Son, 14, Cordwainer, Taunton, Somerset; Sarah Ann Gannicott, Dau., 12, Scholar, Taunton, Somerset; Ann Maria Gannicott, Dau., 10, Scholar, Taunton, Somerset; Emily Gannicott, Dau., 7, Scholar, Taunton, Somerset.

Both parents died before the next Census in 1871.
